Game Of Thrones S8E2: Podrick’s Version of Jenny’s Song “Never Wanted To Leave” Is Hauntingly Beautiful!

(Ser!) Brienne’s squire Podrick Payne sang before the big battle in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The second episode of Game of Thrones’ eighth and final season, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” ended with a somber tune that melted my heart! The song no doubt could be foreshadowing the end of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen in terms of what the future holds for the two lovers. Which one of them will give up the Iron Throne for love?

Towards the ending part of the episode 2, several knights — Jaime Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Brienne of Tarth (who was knighted in the episode), Podrick (Brienne’s squire), Davos Seaworth, and Tormund Giantsbane — were seen drinking together in what seem to be their last night on earth when Tyrion asked the group to sing a song. They all decline except for Podrick, who began to sing a somber tune.

Here are the full lyrics:

High in the halls of the kings who are gone

Jenny would dance with her ghosts.

The ones she had lost and the ones she had found

And the ones who had loved her the most.

The ones who’d been gone for so very long

She couldn’t remember their names

They spun her around on the damp cold stone

Spun away all her sorrow and pain

And she never wanted to leave

Never wanted to leave.

Never wanted to leave.
Never wanted to leave.
Never wanted to leave.
Never wanted to leave.

The song was played later during the episode’s closing credits, where was performed by Florence + The Machine.
