The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a Nigerian entrance examination board for tertiary-level institutions. The board conducts entrance Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for prospective undergraduates into Nigerian universities. The board is also charged with the responsibility to administer similar examinations for applicants to Nigerian public and private monotechnics, polytechnics, and colleges of educations.
The examination consists of four subjects – English Language, Mathematics, and two other subjects relevant to the student’s chosen course of study.
The JAMB exam has been highly competitive since it was established and a large number of students take the exam each year. Over the years and currently, JAMB is considered to be challenging and requires a great deal of preparation and dedication to achieve a high score.
JAMB highest score is placed at 400 JAMB. The scores are divided into four sections, with each section carrying a maximum of 100 marks. Following this grading system, a 350 score and above is considered a remarkable feat and an indication of a student’s academic excellence that will for sure secure a candidate a place at one of Nigeria’s top tertiary-level institutions.
